Guides/FFXIV/Beastmaster

Level 1 to Crucible rankings

Beastmaster

A phase-by-phase plan for Batty Moonhare (Malboro / Crystal), built around the confirmed 7.56 rules.

Read this first

Anything not yet confirmed by Square Enix is flagged as such — the job launched September 8, 2026, so community data is still forming.

What the plan covers

  • Phase 0 — setup before you touch the job
  • Phase 1 — level 1 to 30 on the FATE engine
  • Phase 2 — level 30 to 50, and the Crucible opening
  • Phase 3 — completing the bestiary
  • Phase 4 — beast ranks toward 25
  • Phase 5 — Degrees 1 through 3
  • Phase 6 — the ranked season
  • Timeline — what each phase realistically costs
  • Unconfirmed — the open questions to keep checking

Phases 3, 4 and 5 overlap heavily in practice; they are separated here because they are separate goals, not because they are separate sessions.

Phase 0

Setup

Before you touch the job.

Unlock requirements — you already meet all three

  • Dawntrail registered to the account
  • A Disciple of War or Magic at level 50+ (you have 80)
  • MSQ "The Ultimate Weapon" complete (end of ARR — done long ago)

Your Stormblood position is irrelevant. Beastmaster starts at level 1 regardless of your main job.

The unlock quest

"Strangers in the Wood" from the Excited Adventurer in New Gridania (X:11.8, Y:13.6). It sends you to Sorrel Haven in the Central Shroud (X:15.1, Y:18.9), then a short sequence with a Cu Sith and J'yhuh Tia. Completing it grants the job stone.

Do these first, they compound

  • Aether currents in ARR zones. Coerthas Central Highlands and Mor Dhona especially. You will spend the entire 1–50 grind hopping between FATEs, and doing it on the ground costs you hours.
  • Armoury Chest space for a one-handed axe, a shield, and Striking-class gear.
  • Ask Wild Hearts for Heat of Battle III. FC EXP actions are the single easiest multiplier you control.
  • Bank a Squadron Battle Manual if you have any left over. You can't run squadron missions on Beastmaster, but existing manuals should still apply.
  • Set up notes outside the game. On Switch 2 there are no plugins, so all your Crucible planning — enemy weaknesses, beast rosters, route decisions — lives in a doc or spreadsheet. Start it now; it becomes the actual competitive asset later.

Phase 1 · Level 1 to 30

The FATE engine

Beastmaster gains greater experience from FATEs than other jobs do.

The rule that changes everything

There is no bonus for killing open-world enemies. This is the single most important rule and it invalidates most Blue Mage leveling advice.

There are also no Duty Roulettes and no Deep Dungeons, so Palace of the Dead is not an option.

Zone bands to work through

LevelZones
1–15Central Shroud, Western Thanalan, Middle La Noscea
15–25East Shroud, Eastern Thanalan, Eastern La Noscea
25–35South Shroud, Southern Thanalan, Upper La Noscea
35–45North Shroud, Northern Thanalan, Coerthas Central Highlands
45–50Coerthas Central Highlands, Mor Dhona

Stack every multiplier before each session

  • Armoury Bonus (applies to enemy kills and FATE rewards, and multiplies with the buffs below)
  • Heat of Battle III
  • Squadron Battle Manual
  • Food (small, but cheap)
  • Rested EXP — log out at an inn or in a city

EXP rings and earrings may or may not register on a limited job. Equip one, watch the bar on a single FATE, and decide from there rather than assuming.

Capture as you go

Forging pacts awards experience, and a beast must be at or below your Beastmaster level to capture. Grabbing everything in your current band as you pass through is strictly better than planning a separate collection trip later.

Do the job quests when they appear

They gate mechanics rather than arriving every five levels, and skipping them delays Crucible access.

Phase 2 · Level 30 to 50

Crucible opens

A level 30 job quest unlocks The Crucible of the Unbroken — a solo, board-game-structured roguelike that is Beastmaster's equivalent of the Masked Carnivale.

Start running it on Normal immediately

  1. Remnants of Resilience from stage clears upgrade your Beastmaster-exclusive gear.
  2. Beast EXP — this is the fast lane for raising your beasts, which matters enormously later.
  3. Learning the systems while the stakes are low.

Core Crucible mechanics to internalize now

  • HP does not regenerate between fights. You heal with items found or bought on the board.
  • Items acquired during a run vanish when the run ends, win or lose. Spend buffs rather than hoarding them.
  • Your beasts have their own HP and enmity, and they do not automatically dodge telegraphed AoEs.
  • Snarl pushes enmity to the active beast; Challenge pulls it to you. Learn when you want which.
  • There's an auto-recommend roster option. Use it early, then start beating it manually.

Keep FATEing to 50 alongside this. Crucible clears contribute, but FATEs remain the primary level driver.

Phase 3

Complete the bestiary

There are 50 beasts at launch and all of them are obtainable solo.

Some are captured in the open world; beasts tied to multiplayer duties come through solo alternatives instead.

Build for function, not novelty

A ranked-viable roster wants:

  • Multiple damage types, so you can answer any weakness
  • At least one interrupt
  • Crowd control
  • Defensive Borrow options
  • A spread across the affinity colors — Instinctual Combos chain when you and your familiar act within about seven seconds, and following the affinities clockwise around the gauge deals more damage than repeating one

Bench sizes

For Crucible runs you prepare a wider bench of roughly 10–15 beasts and pick three per battle based on enemy weaknesses. Outside the Crucible you assign three to Battlehorns and rotate between them.

Phase 4

Beast ranks toward 25

The actual stat ceiling on your ranked runs, and the longest grind in the whole plan.

Beast Ranks raise Strength, Intelligence, Physical and Magical Resistance, and Constitution inside the Crucible. Rank 25 also unlocks an alternate appearance that displays outside the duty.

Crucible runs are the fastest source of beast EXP, so Phases 3, 4 and 5 overlap heavily — you are raising ranks while learning boards while filling the bestiary.

Don't spread it thin

Don't spread EXP across all 50. Identify the 10–15 that form your Crucible bench and rank those.

Phase 5

Degrees 1 through 3

Clearing the full stage set unlocks Degrees, which raise enemy HP and damage.

Degrees 1 and 2 are your training ground. Degree 3 is the only difficulty that produces a ranking score.

Work through them methodically

After any failed board, write down why — wrong beast for the weakness, ran out of healing items, lost a familiar to an AoE you could have dodged.

The Crucible was explicitly designed as a planning-and-research challenge rather than an execution test, so a written log of failures converts directly into score.

Phase 6

The ranked season

Only Third Degree runs count, and it is your last attempts that count — not your best.

How scoring works

  • Only Third Degree runs count.
  • Scores are aggregated from the last three attempts of each board — not your best three.
  • Rankings update daily.
  • Rewards go to high-ranking players from each physical data center, so your competition is Crystal, not all of NA.
The single most important tactical consequence

Because it's your last three attempts that count, a sloppy practice run can actively lower your standing. Do your experimenting early in the season, and once you've banked three strong attempts on a board, stop running that board. Treat late-season runs as something you only do when you're confident of beating what you already have.

Reward tiers

PlacementReward
1stAchievement: Beast of the Best
1st–100thAchievement: Running Feral
1st–300thAchievement: Crucible Contender → Tourmaline Golem mount + horn

The mount is attached to the Crucible Contender achievement, so top 300 on Crystal is the real target.

Season 1 window

Begins two weeks after 7.56 (around September 22, 2026) and runs until patch 7.58. No release date has been announced for 7.58, but it has to land before Evercold in January 2027.

Cost

Realistic timeline

What each phase actually asks for.

PhaseRough investment
Unlock + level 1–30A few sessions of focused FATE work
30–50 with Crucible on the sideThe bulk of the leveling time
Bestiary to 50 beastsOverlaps leveling if you capture as you go
Beast Ranks to 25 on your benchThe longest single grind
Degree 1→3 competenceDepends entirely on your notes
Ranked attemptsThe easy part, if the four rows above are done
Season 1 is tight

You'd be starting from level 1 with a two-week head start already gone, against players who did nothing but Beastmaster from launch day, while also finishing your MSQ.

Season 2 is the smart target

The Tourmaline Golem is also obtainable from subsequent ranking periods. Going into a later season with a completed bestiary, ranked beasts, upgraded gear and a full book of board notes is a far better shot than scrambling now — and nothing you do in the meantime is wasted, because every phase above carries forward permanently.

Open questions

Still unconfirmed

The job is one day old. Treat these as open questions rather than settled facts.

  • Whether EXP rings and earrings apply to Beastmaster
  • Optimal FATE routing within each level band (guide sites have this marked "coming soon")
  • The final gear table and stat priorities
  • Which specific beasts form the strongest Crucible bench
  • Whether the level cap rises in future patches, as Blue Mage's did

Check the Lodestone rankings page once Season 1 opens to see what scores are actually placing on Crystal — that will tell you more about feasibility than any pre-release estimate.
